Up bright and early for breakfast and the first day of training today.
This year I’m doing the ACTC certification course of 10.5 support essentials and 10.5 Server essentials.
The Course is OK, Dave – our trainer is in good form however the course material has not changed much from 10.4 and is a little slow going. This is the potato’s and I am looking forward to the meat – unlike the Steak Tartare we were served for lunch at the hotel’s beachfront restaurant today at lunch however, which although I am bit of a carnivore, I just couldn’t bring my self to consume. The meat was expertly seasoned and prepared but it was still like a burger that they forgot to cook. Thoughts of worms and other lovley stuff really put me off. I am sure it was fine and far better than most of the fast food and takeaway I eat from my local establishments (it is France after all), but no thanks – I just ate the chips.
The new location is a mixed bag. The Hotel Thalazur we stayed at in Antibes last year is being refurbished and so we are at the Cannes Palace hotel. The place is not as plush or well kept as Thalazur however the beach resturant is a 2 minute walk away and the sunset over the Med tonight was something to behold.
Cannes is located around a large bay with mountainous cliffs on the right hand side, over which the sun set tonight making the sky boil reds and purple and the cliffs and hills fade to blue in the haze over the bay.
I wish the Mrs could have been with me to see it. I vow to bring her here (together with large wads of cash – it’s not cheap). Even with my extremely limited French, communication is not an issue as most of the locals can muddle through in English.
Off to bed now, an early start tomorrow.
