Time and people

A long time ago, in a distant career I worked on-site support for a large telecommunications company in central London.

The company – at the time anyway, were big Mac users and they hired the computer company I was working for to supply a technical guy to fix their machines. It was a very comfortable place to work and after some time I began to feel more like a member of their staff than of the computer suppliers.

While there, I became mates with two guys, Adam and Oliver who were cousins, but when the contract ended as is the way some times, we parted company and that was that. I had heard through the grapevine that Oliver had landed a job with Microsoftt.

There is something that happens when you get older that makes you look back at your life and remember some of the good times. It was on one of these occasions last year that I remembered Oliver and Adam and after a bit of googling found that there was still an Oliver (lastname) working for Microsoft, so I mailed him. It was a long shot but what could the guy say?

Well sure enough it was the same Oliver! We exchanged a couple of emails saying hi and small world etc. and that was that.

Today I received a Linked-in invite from Oliver – I’m so chuffed that he took the time to send me an invite. It turns out that my old mate Oliver doesn’t just work at MS but runs a large chunk of it (from the look of his Linked-In resume anyway). I always new he would be a success, unlike me, he had a good education and was from a business family – if you know what I mean.Unlike many in his position however, I think he probably deserved the success he’s achieved, he was a very bright cookie but always helpful and nice with it.Well done Oliver and thanks for the invite. It’s made my day.
