Isn’t it time?

Isn’t it time that Apple released their OS as a standalone product for non Apple hardware users. Surely the battle to stop Wintel hackers producing things like this is a drain on resources. Why fight it any longer? Maybe it is on the invisible roadmap Apple has for their future, I don’t know but as one comment said, it is really the only way Apple is going to compete with Microsoft in terms of deployed seats.

Leopard Launched on the UK

Thanks to the nice guys from Apple UK I received my gratius copy of Mac OS X 10.5 tonight at the EBC in London. As a corporate customer we have a rather expensive contract with Apple to upgrade all our Macs to the latest OS version. This AMP agreement entitles us to upgrade disks. We received this one a day or so early (6pm today) which was very nice and it means we can play with it over the weekend.
When we left the EBC about 7pm a queue of customers were still around the block waiting to buy their copy of the software.

I shot a little video: here (warning – 20MB File)

Angry Athiest

Any one (of the two of you) that reads this blog, know that I am a devout athiest. I found this great posting here which echo’s many of my sentiments about faith.

The Bell Tolls for the Mac Mini (again)

The much loved Mac Mini is rumoured to be in the firing line again, the unofficial apple weblog (tuaw.com) says that the Mini’s day are numbered and it is going to be replaced by a Nano device.
One can only hope that they are listening to corporates like ours who have rejected the shiny new iMacs because of their 16 bit reflective screens and are looking to use Mac Mini’s and 20″ or 23″ screens instead.

Perhaps there’s that corporate desktop Mac we have all been asking for in the Apple pipeline. I for one will not be holding my breath however, I think Apple want us “Pro” users to buy only the Mac Pro machines. This is not good for us of course because it perpetuates the “Macs are expensive” mindset in IT management and makes them less inclined to look at them favourably when the next purchasing round happens.

Incidently, I was paid a visit at work by our contact at Microsoft, he was happily brandishing his new Mac Book Pro. He said it was the best Vista laptop he has ever used and gets many admiring looks from his colleagues in the evil empire.

Expo – Apple = Greenpeace victory?

This years MacLiveExpo is just around the corner and perusing the exhibitor list our favourite fruit company is conspicuous by its absence.
I bet the reason Apple are not there this year is because of the trouble they had with Greenpeace last year. Greenpeace, if you remember, launched a hate campaign against Apple for their apparent lack of regard for the environment (totally unfounded as it happens) and was ejected from last years Expo for causing a disturbance.
If that is the case then the (mild) terror tactics they employed have succeeded in nothing but penalising the UK Mac community which IMHO blows.
