The time is right for the rest of hell to freeze.
In my considered opinion, now would be the right time to open MacOS X to those Johnny PC users.
Look at the timing:
- Vista’s bad press means that Microsoft are on the back foot. The general opinion is that Vista is a bad copy of Tiger.
- People generally love Mac OS, there are loads of switch stories knocking around at the moment.
- Anyone with an ounce of technical ability (and legal ambivalence) have the ability to run the OS X on their PC anyway, the work is mostly done already by a small bunch of talented hackers.
- Leopard is just around the corner, what an ideal opportunity to drop the bomb.
Time to think outside owning the box, license the OS, publicly become a software company.
