Evolution
More from that US news report. On another topic. apparently 45% of americans believe that the christian god created everything 10,000 years ago.
45%
There is no hope for the planet. None. Nope. Let me off now.
As long as weak minded fools are tricked into believing in one god or another (or selection of gods), there will be terrorism, race hatred, ethnic cleansing, wars, mistrust and general chaos in the world.
Why can’t they just face up to the fact that we are here because of a unlucky accident (for the world) and millions of years of natural selection. We are the agressive apes that won.
The only hope is a paradigm shift and that doesn’t happen easily.
The “people” seem to need something to cling to in times of worry and need. We have shagged the planet through greed and abuse and now that it is all going wrong the fools think that begging for an imaginary super being to fix it all is going to make a difference. Better still, they think that if they remove all the infidels (that don’t believe in their model), their god will smile upon them more or quicker.
Its enough to make you weep.
The way to stop it all is to get rid of religion, then work on greed and try be nice to each other (apart for the religion bit, pretty much the same stuff a guy was supposed to be saying in the middle east about 2000 years ago and was apparently nailed to a cross by the Romans for saying it!)
There’s a guy at work who is a baptist lay preacher, and you couldn’t wish to meet a nicer bloke. Does he need to be religious to be nice? I suspect that he is a born again and had a troubled past, they work like that – catch you at a weak moment when you would do anything to obtain hope.
Why does anyone need the threat of everlasting pain and suffering to toe the party line. Thats is after all what the christian religions are all about: be nice or face eternal damnation (unless you are catholic and get your sins absolved every week with a little chat to your local priest – nice way of getting people to church right?)
I am not even going to get started on the whole Catholisism subject.
Petrol vs Gas
I had tho laugh this evening when the BBC News 24 channel ran a tape of an American news channel reporting on the cost of “gas” in the states.
Over $2 a gallon apparently is the amazing price that our cousins over the pond have to pay. Well bless, it works out that they have to pay 34.6p a litre for their go go juice. I filled up yesterday at the cheapest petrol I could find on my way home. I payed 89.9p a litre, so forgive me if I don’t feel too much sympathy with their plight.
